Obituary

Hassan Alaee was born in Kashan, Iran on 6 August 1924, to a Muslim father and a Bahá’í mother. In his early years he recognized Bahá’u’lláh and joined the Bahá’í Faith. Soon after, his father also declared his belief in Bahá’u’lláh which resulted in the loss of his livelihood.

After the passing of his father, he, as the sole financial supporter of the family, moved with his mother and two sisters to Tehran. After graduating law school, he secured a position in the Budget and Planning Office Department of the government. In 1957 he married Jaleh Amaei, and they had two children, Shiva and Shahram.

His love was always service. He was engaged in various Bahá’í activities including teaching children’s classes for 20 years. In 1975 he and family moved to United Kingdom and settled in Eastbourne as Bahá’í pioneers. In 1983, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Switzerland invited Hassan and Jaleh to serve as Directors of the Landegg Academy, a Bahá’í International School. In 1987, the Universal House of Justice invited them to Haifa to repair the oriental rugs in the Bahá’í Holy Places in Haifa and Akka, Israel. In 1989, The Universal House of Justice invited them to serve as the custodians of the Resting Place of Shoghi Effendi, located at the New Southgate Cemetery in London. He retired in 2015.

Hassan has written a collection of stories shared by pioneers and new believers who came to visit the Guardian’s Resting Place. In all, he wrote three volumes of stories. They were published in the Persian language.

On September 1st, 2023, he passed to the Abhá Kingdom at the age of 99 leaving behind his dear wife, two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
